The World Lottery Association (WLA) was created in 1999 as a result of the merger of the two state lottery associations that existed in the international sphere at that time: the International Association of State Lotteries (AILE) and INTERTOTO (International Association of Toto and Lotto Organizations). The objective of this union was to join forces and objectives in order to become the only international association representing the state lotteries of the world. This task has been highly successful, given that the state lotteries of more than 90 countries, from five continents, are part of the organisation.
The WLA's code of values is based on the commitment to reach the highest standards of Corporate Social Responsibility (including the Responsible Gaming Framework and Principles) and on respect for the duly authorised legal systems that determine where and how the gaming products can be offered to the citizens of a particular national territory or geographic area. In addition, the association agrees to share knowledge and experiences amongst its members and improve its businesses in order to benefit its interest groups, according to that which is determined by the authorities in each jurisdiction.
To this end, the WLA is based on four fundamental principles:
LAE is part of the WLA in two ways: as part of the European State Lotteries and Toto Association (AELTE) and the Ibero-American Corporation of LoterÃas y Apuestas del Estado (CIBELAE).
